Dear Members,

As we begin a new year, the QTOA remains firmly focused on advocating for owners as the Queensland racing industry moves from review to implementation.

A key priority is our upcoming meeting with Mary Collier, who has recently been appointed by Racing Queensland to play a central role in implementing the State Government’s The Next Lap plan for the future of racing in Queensland.

This meeting represents an important opportunity for owners to engage directly in the next phase of reform and to ensure that the perspectives of those with genuine “skin in the game” are understood and reflected as the plan is rolled out.

Mary is an owner herself and already has a great understanding of the key areas we have been advocating for throughout our submission to the racing review including prizemoney levels, changes to the RQ Board structure and industry sustainability.

The QTOA welcomes the chance to contribute and looks forward to working collaboratively with Racing Queensland to help shape outcomes that support confidence, participation, and long-term sustainability for owners.

The release of The Next Lap was long awaited, and now that the direction has been clearly outlined, it is critical that industry consultation remains genuine and ongoing.

QTOA PART OF INDUSTRY DISCUSSIONS AROUND STRATCHING VOLUMES

Racing Queensland has commenced consultation with industry stakeholders on potential solutions to address the ongoing issue of scratching volumes.

This has been a matter of concern for the industry for some time, particularly in relation to field sizes and perceptions around wagering confidence.

RQ has formed the view that following extensive analysis of data and industry research that some changes need to be made in order to address the large volume of scratchings.

QTOA will be actively involved in this consultation process and will ensure that the interests of owners are clearly articulated as options are explored and refined.

THANKS TO OWNERS FOR THEIR ONGOING SUPPORT

Finally, I would like to extend a sincere thank you to all owners who joined us for our end-of-year Christmas celebration in December.

It was a terrific opportunity to reflect on the year that was and to connect in a relaxed and social setting.

I also thank those owners who took the time to stop by and say hello at the QTOA stand during the Magic Millions Sales.

Your engagement, feedback, and support are invaluable and reinforce the importance of QTOA’s role as the collective voice for owners in Queensland.

Remember, if you aren't already a financial member of the QTOA, you can help us strengthen our voice by joining for less than $2 per week.
