Dear Members,
The QTOA has been involved in recent industry discussions around proposed changes to the Pattern and Black Type racing.
These deliberations are critical to ensuring that the racing calendar continues to serve the long-term interests of owners, breeders, trainers, race clubs and the broader industry.
Racing Queensland recently met with stakeholders, including the QTOA, to present some information and context on proposed changes to the pattern and black type racing being put forward for voting from State bodies by Racing Australia.
The general consensus from stakeholders that what is being proposed needs much wider and deeper discussion given the pattern system and the allocation of black type races are central to the value of our bloodstock and the integrity of the racing product. Any adjustment to the program has significant flow-on effects and as such we believe a united national approach is needed.
We stressed that it is more important to get it right rather than adopting a new system without appropriate consultation.
The QTOA will continue to monitor developments closely and provide strong advocacy as further consultation takes place. We thank our members for their ongoing support and remind you that your feedback is essential in guiding our position on these critical issues.
The months ahead will be important for shaping the future of the racing pattern in Australia. We are confident that through collaboration and strong representation, Queensland owners will continue to have their voices heard and their interests safeguarded.
QLD GEARS UP FOR HALL OF FAME AWARDS
Queensland will play host to the upcoming Australian Racing Hall of Fame Awards night this Sunday. This prestigious event is one of the highlights of the national racing calendar, recognising the champions of our sport — horses, trainers, jockeys, breeders, and administrators — who have left a lasting legacy.
Bringing this event to Queensland is a significant opportunity for our state and it is wonderful to see two Queenslanders in Peter Moody and Zac Purton being recognised with their induction into the Hall of Fame.
Queenslanders are also well represented in the Australian Racehorse of the Year awards with COOL ARCHIE (Champion 2YO), ANTINO (Champion Middle Distance) and KNIGHT’S CHOICE (Champion Stayer) all finalists for awards.
The QTOA looks forward to joining with industry partners and our members in supporting the Hall of Fame night.
And only around the corner is the Queensland Racing Awards to be held on Sunday, October 12 at The Star, Brisbane.
Returning to a Sunday afternoon timeslot which proved popular last year, the annual awards are a chance to celebrate the stars of our industry across metropolitan, provincial and country Queensland for the 2024/25 season.
