It’s been a wonderful start to 2023 and that theme is set to continue with the introduction of prizemoney increases in Queensland from February 1.
Another successful Magic Millions sales and racing carnival has made for a very busy start to the new year. The sales again proved to be world-class as records tumbled and the strength of the yearling market continues.
The Gold Coast Turf Club had to overcome some weather hurdles with the Magic Millions Raceday having to be rescheduled, but what a fantastic day of racing it turned out to be.
The GCTC now enters a new era as the redevelopment of the course proper gets underway and racing on the new synthetic all weather track takes over for the majority of 2023.
In early January, the QTOA held a positive Annual General Meeting where we welcomed a new committee member in Justine Opperman.

As we head into February, we welcome prizemoney increases in Queensland, which will be well received by owners across the board.
However, we will continue to advocate for owners receiving further prizemoney enhancements in the future, particularly in certain areas such as North Queensland and regional Queensland.
We have also been advocating for owners to play more of an active role in the process with the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission (QRIC) in matters involving their horses.
Our recent discussions with QRIC have been extremely positive and both parties are working towards greater lines of communication and education for owners.
Lastly, we look forward to a busy year ahead where we will continue to build on what we have been able to achieve over the past 12 months.
